Special thanks to Coach Pete Castagneto, Coach Bob Wilson, Coach Drake Villarin, Coach Joe Hippler and Coach Phil Janquart.
This season’s victory was nothing short of dramatic. Trailing by 20.5 points heading into the championship round, Bishop Kelly mounted a stunning comeback to edge out Minico with a final score of 228.5 to 225.5. The Knights delivered an electrifying performance in the finals, winning four of five championship matches while earning three pins and a technical fall. These critical bonus points proved decisive in overtaking their rivals and securing the title.
The coaching staff’s meticulous preparation and emphasis on mental toughness, technical precision, and teamwork were evident throughout the team’s journey. Under pressure, the Knights rose to the occasion, performing at their best when it mattered most. This triumph not only marked their second consecutive state title but also solidified their place in Bishop Kelly wrestling history.
This achievement highlights not just the talent and determination of the athletes but also the visionary leadership of Ybarra, Ater, Schaffeld and Blue. Their unwavering commitment has transformed Bishop Kelly into a program synonymous with excellence—one that doesn’t merely compete but dominates at the highest level.
