Varsity Coaches Corner - December 2015

It was a great season with a very larger Senior class representing Bishop Kelly.  Going into the State Tournament we were 7-1 and had a solid month of practice under us.  It was a double elimination tournament, but each game mattered.  Our first game we played Coeur d'alene B team and won 18-4.  It was a warm up game and everyone got in and played well.  The second game we rallied back from a 3 goal deficit with a 9-6 victory which set us up to play our rival from the north.  Coeur d'alene has won the last 2 years against us in the finals and we knew we had to play them tough.  They are a great team and coached to swim.  We never lost focus on each quarter and with a win we would go straight to the Championship game.  At the end of the 4th quarter the score was 5-4 us.  Our route to the finals became much easier then everyone else with that victory.  Our opponents had to play one or two more games to get back to the Championship.  The day seemed to be going in our favor and all of the hard work was paying off.  The Championship game was again played against our friends to the north.  We entered the game a little flat and found ourselves behind at  half 5-2.  In the 3rd quarter we were able to put two goals in with the help of all of our players.  Going into the 4th quarter we were only down by 1 and you would think it was doable.  However, the table turned on us and the momentum that we had going into this game seemed to end.  We had our opportunities and one shot led to the next and could not get the ball in the back of the net.  By the final buzzer we ended up short by 1, 5 to 4.  Our team played well and fought hard.  We represented Bishop Kelly well and proud of the players.  Thanks to all of the parents and fans for coming out and supporting us!

JV Coaches Corner

The JV squad had a few returnees from last year, but the majority of the team were beginners, some whom have never swam competitively or at all.  With that being said, the team made great strides in conditioning, fundamentals and overall, learning the game.  The first tournament played compared to the State Tournament was night and day!  Each athlete showed great improvement and contributed to elevating the team's level of play.  This was not exemplified more than at the State Tournament where the team tied for 5th!  After 3 overtime periods and a shoot out, the game ended in a tie due to time constraints.  The coaches are looking forward to next year with everyone returning!  A huge thanks to all the parents for their support of the team.
